Desiigner’s “Panda” Goes Number One On Billboard Hot 100

Six weeks into the release of his debut single “Panda”, Desiigner has reached the number one position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Heard by the masses on Kanye West’s “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 2”, which was on the now-infamous “The Life of Pablo”, “Panda” has shifted Rihanna’s collaborative single with Drake “Work” to number two on the charts this week. This is the first hip-hop song to place first since Wiz Khalifa’s 2015 release of “See You Again”.

Over the six weeks of “Panda” being on the charts, it has gone from 96 to first.

Since 2000, only six rappers from New York City have been number one on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, with the feat not having been achieved since Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind” from 2009. The others to do so from New York are Ja Rule, 50 Cent, Terror Squad, and MIMS.
