ILoveMakonnen’s time with Octobers Very Own (OVO) seems to be up. According to Billboard, the artist known for “Tuesday” has ended his time with Drake’s record label.
Just a month ago, his rocky relationship with the record label looked to have been smoothing over with talk of a collaborative album with all of OVO’s artists arising. “A collaboration album? I can’t say too much,” he said. “It exists. We’ll just see when it comes out.”
The first sign of that tension arising once again came with his latest release, “Drink More Water 6”, as it was released through Warner Bros. Records and not OVO Sound.
More tension arose as he told The FADER that his role at OVO was simply an imprint. “It’s cool,” he said. “They put out my music and stuff and we just keep it moving. Let them tell you their relationship with Makonnen. I’m just an artist, being an artist, and there’s only so much that I can do.”
