You Might Be About To Buy Sneakers Only Using Facebook

The sneaker community on the whole hates bots, but Facebook has announced a new feature (currently in beta) for its Messenger app that lets you buy sneakers via the app.

It will do this by communicating with bots built by the brands themselves. The technology was announced yesterday at its F8 annual developers conference.

Facebook stressed that the bots won’t simply be “command-line” chat bots that have received negative attention recently by brands such as Supreme. These bots constantly refresh on websites to then check-out the product as quick as possible. The Messenger feature will be more featured and app-like.

The presenter used eCommerce site Spring to demonstrate how easy it will be to purchase sneakers directly from your Facebook Messenger app. Once out of beta and fully developed, it will be open to all Facebook businesses. Soon we could be buying all our sneakers on Facebook.
