Kendrick Lamar Releases Surprise LP

After Anthony Tiffith announced on his Instagram that Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) would be releasing a surprise project, people instantaneously projected it would be that of Schoolboy Q or Isaiah Rashad. Instead, it was Kendrick Lamar.

Hot off the wheels of a strong performance at the Grammys, Lamar opted to release untitled unmastered, a culmination of live performances and unreleased content. Spanning over four years of Lamar’s growth, the LP is eight tracks long, each titled with the name “Untitled” followed by the date they were made or performed.

Heard before, but never released in full, Lamar performed some of them on television the final episodes of The Colbert Report in 2014, and again on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

With details still arising, it seems as if Swizz Beatz is claiming that his son, Egypt, produced track seven. Meanwhile, Robert Glasper’s recent retweets makes it seem like he had a role to play on track five, and Cardo worked on tracks two and seven.

Lamar’s lyricism shines through once again as he talks about poverty, greed, crime, and the imperfections of the human race.
